On May 20th, Voltage Inc. announced an upcoming new social game based on the popular manga series, Hana Yori Dango (known as Boys Over Flowers in the Western market). The game will be available on the App Store and Google Play, just like with other games such as Love Ring, Love Tiara, and so on, as well as on Mobage. It is scheduled to be released at the beginning of July with early registration to open on June 2nd. Like with all of Voltage’s social games, it will be free to play with the option to buy items with real money.
Currently, four characters are expected to be available either upon the game’s release or after, which are
- Doumyouji Tsukasa, F4’s oresama leader
- Hanazawa Rui, the cool “mypace” prince
- Nishikado Soujirou, the moodmaker overflowing with dignity
- Mimasaka Akira, the beautiful senior killer (?)
I have not even touched the series in any incarnation except for one chapter in a Shoujo Beat magazine I once had in high school, but I never gave it so much as a glance. I’ve been meaning to pick it up after hearing how good it is, but I never got the chance. I’m really interested in playing the game as well, and hearing that it’s being advertised as “original”, I have to wonder if that means the story is different than the manga? Either way, if there is even the slightest chance that we’ll get it in English, I better get to reading the manga before it does!
I still don’t know much, but I’ll update if I can get (and understand) any new info!

I used to read this manga like few years ago…It started pretty decent but it’s become more worsen when the mangaka decide to throw love triangle, ton of sexual harassment (and even rape) either from the other male character and the main guy itself orz. I used to like the heroine (Tsukushi) at the beginning, but her indecisiveness makes me cringe a lot -__-. Actually Konami used to make a game based on hana yori dango too on NDS lol, unfortunately the system is pretty repetitive and the stories are pretty short ^^; I still wondering tho whether the heroine on this game will be an original character or we will play as Tsukushi (the original heroine from the manga). I probably end up playing this since I always adore Hanazawa Rui (He’s reminds me of Ren from MFW !) and I just want him to be happy ; ;

May 24, 2015 at 12:53 amFor me I only enjoying it at the beginning until like middle part ^^; I know that this series is one of the old shoujo manga so I’m not surprised to see lot of attempted rape or some kind of that orz. Yeah it was a pretty old game, I remember you can even make lunch box to the guy and what not lol. Hmm, The heroine from the konami version is not Tsukushi, you basically play as an original heroine ^^; Yeah, he’s pretty distant at first but he’s really sweet at the later chapter…that’s why I disappointed when Tsukushi didn’t end up with him ; ;
Have you seen people whining and complaining about sakura amidst chaos ? I’ve seen people whining about the character’s sprite, CG, stories, and even the heroine…and they judge it just from mere opening movie and the prologue orz. I get that the artwork for sakura amidst chaos can be pretty dated, but It’s pretty rude to says that the art is ugly =//

I do remember reading KareKano, and was surprised by the rape thing that happened in it because it was like… it was rape, but she allowed it to happen??? If I remember correctly, the translation had said something like he “forced himself on her”, but she “let him”. I finished it like five years ago, but I’m still “wtf???” about it…. Must be a good thing that I tended to avoid manga that old >_____> Oh, then I guess it’ll be an original heroine. I’m pretty sure they’re going to have the “pick your name” thing, so I don’t think it would work with the heroine from the manga like that. Agh, now I want to play him ; ; At least then I could skip all the other stuff in the manga heee

I’m pretty sure they’re only complaining about the artwork because they’ve seen the Love Ballad artwork >_____> I think I saw someone even say that SAC art is low quality because Voltage didn’t care about it or something, bUT THAT’S NOT EVEN IT??? The game and artwork is 6 years old and Love Ballad is not even a year old! You can’t fairly compare the two as if they were released at the same time! I don’t even think Tenka had the popularity or the backing that Doukyonin did to get an art revamp = = And really, I like the designs as they are. The Love Ballad designs can stay in Love Ballad >_____> (Not that they’re awful, but I really do like the original designs…

It’s funny how people will quickly go off about the artwork and then turn around and ask Voltage to bring over Celebrity Darling >_____> I just hope all that negativity doesn’t affect any future releases for SAC. I’VE WAITED TOO FREAKIN LONG OKAY.Yes it’s pretty long, since it has a ton of unnecessary drama between Tsukushi and the main guy (Doumyouji) I still amazed that I can finish that manga since there’s lot of time I want to drop it -__-‘. I recommend hirunaka no ryuusei, It’s pretty good shoujo manga ! and the ending is pretty unusual too, since the heroine didn’t end up with the main guy ^^;
Seriously, as someone who like tenka, I really disappointed seeing people saying the artwork is ugly and unrefined, and yes people keep comparing it to love ballad and we’re already know that love ballad is a “remake” from the original app so of course the artwork is more better compared to the app version which released few years ago -___-. I remember people complaining about Nobunaga’s hair…I just like…what….and saying why his hair is pink, even though to me his hair is more like reddish brown instead of pink -___-. I probably going to ignore the tag when the game come out since I don’t want to see any negativity orz. Maybe people will think that if voltage decide to release celebrity darling, the artwork will be the same as the love duet version ? I actually didn’t really like the love ballad artwork that much, some of the characters looks like a porcelain doll >__>”

THEY DON’T END UP TOGETHER? Aaahhh now I want to read it…. I don’t like student-teacher relationships, but if they don’t end up together, I might be able to read it….
It’s unfair to compare Tenka and Love Ballad when they’re six years apart. It would be a completely different story if Love Ballad was the one that came out six years ago and Tenka last year, but that’s not the case. You just don’t take something old and something new, and then complain that the old is not as good as the new. That’s not how it works. Isn’t the hairstyle thing like a artstyle for the illustrator? I know Keith (BMP) and Hiroto (恋人はキャプテン, which I still hope will get a port) have somewhat similar hairstyles. As for color, same. I figured it was like between red and brown type of thing. That’s probably proof of the “you can’t please everyone” because I remember someone complaining that the hair colors on the Voltage guys were too “boring” and “normal” >____> HA. There’s no way it would come with Love Duet artwork if it’s not Love Duet. Even if they just replaced all the sprites and illustrations, it wouldn’t work because the stories are different, so the illustrations wouldn’t fit the story. LOL They’re too shiney and the colors a bit too light? That’s what comes to mind to me at least. The coloring looks like there’s a bit more contrast between the light and dark colors than usual….
